Now here is a tasty treat!
Orange jello.
{duh}
But it could be orange and lemon.
Or lime.
Or lime and lemon.
Anyway.
Add canned pineapple.
Shredded carrot.
Diced cucumber.
Chopped green pepper.
Some celery.
Basically whatever you have in your refrigerator.
And a little dollop of Miracle Whip.
Well, actually....a large dollop of Miracle Whip.
Love that tangy zip of Miracle Whip!
Have you seen the great new TV commercials for Miracle Whip?
Love those too.
So.
It is time to 'fess up.
Miracle Whip......
Yes?
Or no?
You can tell me.

Awhile back, in a short-lived attempt to cut caffeine consumption, I sold my coffee maker at one of my garage sales.
I soon decided that perhaps I'd been just a tad bit hasty.
Not too much after that, I saw an ad in a magazine for a rather funky looking one or two cup coffee brewing system.
Maybe that was exactly what I needed.....
Or at least I thought so until I investigated further on the Internet and decided that would make for some rather expensive occasional cups of coffee.
{did you notice that I did not call myself a tight-a$$ this time?}
So for a time, I made do drinking once-in-awhile cups of instant coffee.
Mostly I stuck with tea.
And then I spied it at a rummage sale....
Oh yeah.
Five bucks.
And I was so pleased.
Until I tried to make my first cup of coffee....
No go.
Of course there were no instructions.
And for some reason, jabbing harder on the buttons and saying words of strong encouragement just really didn't seem to help.
Finally I figured it out.....
Voila!
Coffee!
Since then, I have found a great website where you can find operating instructions for lots of different household appliances.
Comes in handy if you buy something at a yard sale or thrift shop and the instructions are missing.
Just in case you actually read them.
I've been lucky enough so far to find the coffee pods at what we ever so fondly refer to as the scratch and dent grocery store.
I love that place.
I could care less if my cereal, granola bars or tea bags come out of boxes with scrunched up corners.
It is a 50 mile round trip to go shopping, but the savings on cereal alone make it worth while.
Besides, this little town also has an excellent thrift shop....
Yeah, now you are getting the picture.
So, does anybody want to come over for coffee?
I've got scratch and dent biscotti............

Saturday morning, Roger and I went to a rummage sale here in Deadwood.
We were pretty excited.
There just aren't that many rummage sales here. Our streets are narrow and hilly, addresses are hard to find for anyone who doesn't live here in town, and a great many people just don't have garages, driveways, or anywhere to hold a sale.
Anyway.
It turned out to be a moving sale, and a rather strange one at that.
They believed in the Buy-It-In-Bulk method of selling.
You had to buy an entire garbage bag full of purses.
Or shoes.
Or Christmas decorations.
Basically, you couldn't buy just one of anything.
Probably not your ideal way to sell stuff.
Back in the corner, shoved under a table, I noticed a rather large box of buttons.
I wanted it.
But it was sitting in an old roaster pan, and, of course, one could not be bought without the other.
Yippee!
A roaster pan!
A roaster pan like every Grandma in America used to own.
I didn't want the roaster pan, but I did want the buttons, so I became the proud owner of said roaster pan.
Coincidentally, a nice beef roast was in our supper plans for Sunday.
Roger decided to give the old roaster pan a whirl before it got consigned to the pile of junk slated for my rummage sale later this summer......
Here is the lovely roaster pan right before the lid went on and it was slid into the oven.
About an hour or so later, the house started to smell wonderful.
I'm sorry to say that I have no photo from when the roaster came out of the oven....
I was too busy eating!
That roast was absolutely heavenly!
The veggies were done to perfection!
There were some real cool buttons in that box.....
But I am beginning to think that the old blue roaster pan was definitely a much better find!

Ok. I'll admit it.
Lately it seems like I have been feeling a little blah.
Washed out.
Not really under the weather....just blah.
Like I could be Queen Bee of the I am Boring Society.
I wonder what to post about....
What could I write about that would possibly interest anyone?
I know. I know.
Waa. Waa. Waa.
Then I looked around me this morning and saw lots of bright and oh-so-interesting sights that I just knew everyone would be oh-so-happy to see....
Add in blueberries, dried cranberries, wheat germ and sunflower seeds for a little extra excitement!
Here is some zing!
I love grapefruit!
My Mom says I have loved it since I was a tiny child...
And how can this not make any morning brighter???
Oooo! A great favorite!
Smushed up Weetabix, strawberries and a banana!
The breakfast of champions.
Or so I have heard.
And then a most excellent finish.
Not so blah anymore, now am I???
What was on your breakfast table this morning, folks?

Oh my!
Look at all that goodness!
This is one of my favorite things to bake {and I don't bake much...} and also one of my favorite things to eat. I got the recipe many, many years ago from my sister-in-law and have tweaked it just a dab. Great as a cereal for breakfast or to just enjoy as is by the handful!
...It requires snacking while preparing....
~Granola~
6 cups rolled oats (18 oz. canister)
3/4 cup oil (vegetable, canola---whatever you like)
1 cup honey
1 cup nuts (I like a mix of peanuts and walnuts chopped up)
1 cup sunflower seed nuts (I use roasted unsalted)
3 tablespoons vanilla
1 cup wheat germ (I use Kretschmer Original Toasted)
Mix it all together and bake in a large pan at 300 degrees for 1 hour. Stir every 15 minutes. Cool and store in air tight container.
You could add raisins, etc if you like---I don't.
I added sliced almonds in a recent batch and that was pretty tasty..........
I have made it with both types of rolled oats and found that I like the quick cooking variety best. The regular oats make it a little more chewy in case that is what you prefer.
Anyway.
I love this stuff! It's like an oatmeal cookie in a bowl!
Please pass the milk!

Here is a little something that I like to bake from time to time....
Pumpkin Pudding!
Complete with all the fiber goodness of pumpkin, less sugar and no crust, it is like a pumpkin pie that you don't have to feel so guilty about.
Yum!
I found the recipe in this excellent book several years ago...
{You should read this book, by the way...}
~Patty's Pumpkin Pudding~
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (optional)
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
2 large eggs (preferred with high omega-3)
One 15 ounce can 100% pure pumpkin
One 12 ounce can evaporated non-fat milk (can use evaporated 2%)
{the ingredients listed as "optional" are required at my house}
Mix sugar, cinnamon, salt, ginger and cloves in small bowl. Beat the eggs in a large bowl. Stir in the pumpkin and sugar/spice mixture. Gradually stir in the evaporated milk. Pour into a shallow oven-proof dish (I use a 2qt 8x8 glass baker) and bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for about 40 minutes. Don't over bake; the center should be slightly wiggly. Cool and enjoy at room temp or refrigerate for later use.
I repeat....yum!
And since I usually have only a large 29 ounce can of pumpkin on hand, I use some of the left over for these tasty treats...
Pumpkin Cornbread Muffins!
Just add 1/2 cup of pumpkin to any store bought cornbread/muffin mix and bake as instructed.
I like to give them a light zap in the microwave with some real butter....
Another big yum!
